As most consumers know, the recent recession was a very tough time for the auto industry in general, and Jeep brand was not immune to those tough times. However, Jeep brand stayed the course and now a couple years removed from the financial crisis, Jeep brand is celebrating a huge manufacturing milestone, as they recently rolled out the 5 millionth Grand Cherokee produced at their Jefferson North Assembly Plant in the heart of Detroit!
This is a significant achievement for a number of reasons. Chrysler almost had to shutter the Jefferson North plant for purely financial reasons. However, CEO for Chrysler Group, Sergio Marchionne, did not want to do that. He wanted to make the Detroit plant a symbol of the resurrection of the auto industry. So he pledged to factory workers that if they worked hard to make the new Grand Cherokee successful, he would continue to invest in the plant.
And thankfully for Jeep brand fans all across the country, both sides of that promise held up their end. The 5-millionth Cherokee model was painted silver and inscribed with a special commemorative message and was donated to the United Service Organization. This tale of a factory being pulled back from the brink by the hard work of its employees, and the quality of the product they produce is truly an American success story.
There are plenty of Grand Cherokee models ready and waiting to be driven here at our Tucson, AZ showroom, where we also serve customers from the Catalina Foothills, AZ and Marana, AZ areas, so stop by for a test drive soon!
